Hand and Wrist Pain
The hand is a very necessary perfect structure for everyday life activities in the human body. Therefore, injuries or pains lead to important problems affecting the quality of life and the individual’s independence.
Many diseases that cause hand and wrist pain have been described. The most common of these are traumas and related tendon and nerve injuries. Apart from traumas, inflammatory rheumatic diseases such as quervain disease, trigger finger, soft tissue injuries such as dupuytren contracture, trap neuropathies such as carpal tunnel syndrome and compression of the ulnar nerve in the Guyon canal, inflammatory rheumatic diseases such as psoriasis arthritis, scleroderma.
Hand osteoarthrosis is a problematic problem due to pain in the hand, nodules on the fingers and deformity of the hand. It is generally seen in women and there is a genetic transition. The disease can progress slowly for many years with pain or little pain. De quirvain disease is a kind of tenosynovitis that we encounter with pain around the thumb and difficulty in thumb movements. Trigger finger is a disease in which the tendon and its bed are affected, which is responsible for the trigger movement of the fingers. Since the tendon sheath swells and thickens due to inflammation, the tendon experiences difficulties in the sliding movement that must be done during finger movements. At first, the symptoms in the damaged part of the sheath due to the decrease in movement and relaxation with only a jump movement, treatment is not applied and if the event progresses, the sheath gradually thickens and the tendon movement disappears completely and the finger ends in a trigger-pulling position.
Carpal tunnel syndrome, which is manifested by numbness, tingling and muscle weakness and atrophy in the later periods as a result of the compression of the median nerve while passing through the canal called carpal tunnel at the wrist level, is the most common type of compression neuropathies. Guyon canal neuropathy is one of the most common trap neuropathies that can be seen in various regions that match the ulnar nerve tract as a result of compression of the ulnar nerve at certain localizations at the level of the wrist and palm, and motor loss according to the lesion location.
Although the treatments differ according to the underlying cause, successful results can be obtained with pharmacological treatments, exercise options, injection treatments, splints and physical therapy methods in the vast majority of cases.
