Hip Pain

Hip Pain

Hip pain is a very common pain in the society that occurs in different age groups due to different reasons. The pain in the hip region may be related to the diseases of the hip joint itself, as well as soft tissue pathologies such as muscle around the tendons, bursa. Apart from the hips, pain reflected from the waist or knee joints may also be felt in the hip.

Transient synovitis is one of the most common causes of hip pain and disruption in children, usually 3-10 years old boys. In transient synovitis, an increase in synovial fluid is observed in the hip joint, and an inflammatory reaction and thickening is observed in the intraarticular membrane, which we call synovia. The most important cause of hip pain in adults is the instability and pain in the joint as a result of micro-tears and loosening in these ligaments as a result of strain of thick and strong ligaments (ligaments) that support the hip joint due to weight and postural disorders. Bursitis, which develops as a result of the use of excessive use of fluid pillow-protectors protecting the muscles and tendons, may cause hip pain. In tendons, which are thick structures that connect bones and muscles, tendinitis occurs as a result of excessive use or development of trauma and inflammation, and they can cause hip pain. In older ages, hip calcification (osteoarthritis) is an important cause of hip pain caused by damage to the joint cartilage due to excessive load on the hip joint due to weight and postural disorders. Rheumatic diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, acute rheumatic fever may also involve the hip joint. They progress with pain, swelling and increased temperature in the hip joint. Especially the problems of the waist and sacroiliac regions may reflect on the hip. With the damage of the head of the thigh bone due to high doses and prolonged use of cortisone due to the damage to the bone tissue, the clinical picture that causes severe pain and limitation of motion in the hip called avascular necrosis may occur. Hematomas due to vascular pathologies or trapping of the vessels or nerves passing close to the hip joint can cause pain in the hip area.

Although the treatment varies according to the underlying cause, successful results can be obtained with pharmacological treatments, injection treatments, exercise options and physical therapy methods in the vast majority of cases.
