Physical Therapy And Rehabilitation

As medical science changed and developed rapidly at the present time; it has moved away from only treating diseases and has been divided into three basic groups: preventive medicine, therapeutic medicine and rehabilitation medicine. Now, the purpose of medicine is to prevent the occurrence of diseases rather than treating them, namely preventive medicine. However, rehabilitation medicine has gained importance in many diseases, especially in degenerative, rheumatic, neurological, and orthopedic diseases in order to cure the existing disease and to improve the quality of life of the person. Rehabilitation medicine aims to bring the person to the highest possible physical, psychological, social, vocational and educational level within the existing physical or anatomical inadequacies and environmental limitations. For this, physical agents are also used in conjunction with ‘rehabilitation’ practices, in other words personalized exercise programs accompanied by a physiotherapist. Physical agents used in physical therapy;

  • Surface heaters; cold-hot applications,

  • Deep heaters (diathermy and ultrasound (US),

  • Mechanical agents (Traction and compression)

  • Electrotherapy, electromagnetic agents

  • Laser applications.

Physical therapy agents help exercise therapy in conditions that limit daily life activities related to the musculoskeletal system, such as contracture, loss of motion in the joints, muscle atrophy. Physical therapy agents have effects such as reducing pain, preventing atrophy, distributing edema, easing blood circulation, relieving muscle spasm, smoothing connective tissue-contracture-spasticity, regulating autonomic nervous system in acute and chronic musculoskeletal diseases.

Physical therapy and rehabilitation; It is applied in muscular and skeletal system disorders such as neck hernia, herniated disc, knee calcification, meniscus tear, shoulder, elbow, foot and wrist pain, nerve compression, sports injuries, soft tissue rheumatism (fibromyalgia), rheumatic and neurological diseases.

Along with the personalized exercise programs accompanied by a physiotherapist; It is aimed to eliminate a person’s pain and correct functional problems (such as loss of muscle strength, joint motion limitation, gait disturbance, balance disorder).
